Zebenzui Cabrera, an off duty Skipper of the Navia Lifeboat Service, aided a capsized cayuco (narrow boat) on the El Hierro pier. After seeing the boat flip, he jumped into the water explaining “any colleague would have done the same”. Cabrera reports that in the days after the event, those he rescued had to seek medical attention for numbness and fever after receiving cuts all over the body and having spent too long in the oil and waste filling water.

Zebenzui Cabrera, patrón fuera de servicio del Servicio de Salvamento Marítimo de Navia, ayudó a un cayucos (embarcación estrecha) que había volcado en el muelle de El Hierro. Tras ver cómo volcaba la embarcación, se lanzó al agua explicando que «cualquier compañero habría hecho lo mismo». Cabrera informa de que, en los días posteriores al suceso, los rescatados tuvieron que acudir al médico por entumecimiento y fiebre, tras sufrir cortes por todo el cuerpo y pasar demasiado tiempo en el agua llena de aceite y residuos.
