CC votes against the eco-tax in the Tenerife Island Council after having defended it before 18 March

Tenerife Council has rejected the motion of a tourist eco-tax despite publicly supporting the measure leading up to the 18M demonstrations. The People’s Party has openly rejected a tourist tax however President Rosa Davila defending the idea days before the recent protests as well as 24 hours prior to the vote in which she opposed the plan.

El Ayuntamiento de Tenerife ha rechazado la moción de un impuesto ecológico al turismo, a pesar de haber apoyado públicamente la medida antes de las manifestaciones del 18M. El Partido Popular ha rechazado abiertamente un impuesto turístico, sin embargo, la presidenta Rosa Dávila defendió la idea días antes de las recientes protestas, así como 24 horas antes de la votación en la que se opuso al plan.

Trade unions give hotel and catering employers in Santa Cruz de Tenerife 15 days to increase wages by 6.5%

Unions in the hospitality industry are demanding a 6.5% raise to wages within the next 15 days or they threaten protests and strikes will resume in July and August. The main hoteliers targeted are Ashotel and Aero in the Sanat Cruz de Tenerife area.

Los sindicatos dan 15 días a la patronal hostelera de Santa Cruz de Tenerife para aumentar los salarios un 6,5%

Los sindicatos del sector hotelero exigen un aumento salarial del 6,5 % en los próximos 15 días o, de lo contrario, amenazan con reanudar las protestas y las huelgas en julio y agosto. Los principales hoteleros afectados son Ashotel y Aero, en la zona de Santa Cruz de Tenerife.

They want to ban a symbolic gathering in Teide, and the next day they announce a bike race there.
They are pushing the people to the limit.
Our protest is a result of their violence.’

‘Dicen que sí a un impuesto ecológico antes de los 18 millones, y luego votan en contra.
Quieren prohibir una reunión simbólica en el Teide, y al día siguiente anuncian una carrera ciclista allí.
Están llevando a la gente al límite.
Nuestra protesta es consecuencia de su violencia.’

ATAN states a double standard held by Rosa Davila as she supports cycling race

ATAN posts on Instagram the double standard held by President Rosa Davila after her public opposition to the planned protests taking place on the 7th of June in Teide National Park. Announcements have been made of plans for 2026 to host a high-level cycling race within the National Park which Davila has supported. Activists are frustrated but not surprised by the irony of the president’s comments that demonstrations in the park would add to the disruption of the natural landscape however the plans for a high profile sports event is positive

ATAN denuncia la hipocresía de Rosa Dávila al apoyar la carrera ciclista.

ATAN publica en Instagram la doble moral de la presidenta Rosa Dávila tras su oposición pública a las protestas previstas para el 7 de junio en el Parque Nacional del Teide. Se han anunciado planes para celebrar en 2026 una carrera ciclista de alto nivel dentro del Parque Nacional, que Dávila ha apoyado. Los activistas se sienten frustrados, pero no sorprendidos, por la ironía de los comentarios de la presidenta, que afirma que las manifestaciones en el parque perturbarían el paisaje natural, mientras que los planes para celebrar un evento deportivo de alto nivel son positivos.

I live in a €600 cupboard in Tenerife – tourism priced me out of my home

Thousands of Canarians have been forced out of their homes due to increasing property prices as a result of mass tourism. Many residents have reported living in makeshift accommodation on the islands as they struggle through the housing crisis. The bank of Spain reported in May 2025, there was a deficit of 450,000 homes, with half of the housing on the Canary and Balearic Islands owned by non-residents or allocated as tourist accommodation.

Vivo en un armario de 600 € en Tenerife: el turismo me ha echado de mi casa.

Miles de canarios se han visto obligados a abandonar sus hogares debido al aumento de los precios inmobiliarios como consecuencia del turismo masivo. Muchos residentes han denunciado que viven en alojamientos improvisados en las islas mientras luchan por superar la crisis de la vivienda. El Banco de España informó en mayo de 2025 que había un déficit de 450 000 viviendas, y que la mitad de las viviendas de las Islas Canarias y Baleares eran propiedad de no residentes o estaban destinadas al alojamiento turístico.

Hotel resort Lopesan is carrying on development without authorisation or regard for the environment. In Pasito Blanco (St.Bartolome de Tirajana) they have buried two public gorges with soil from the new hotel next to ExpoMeloneras without permission from the insular council of waters.

El complejo hotelero Lopesan sigue adelante con su desarrollo sin autorización y sin tener en cuenta el medio ambiente. En Pasito Blanco (San Bartolomé de Tirajana) han enterrado dos barrancos públicos con tierra procedente del nuevo hotel situado junto a ExpoMeloneras sin permiso del Consejo Insular de Aguas.
