The demonstrations planned for the 7th of June in Teide National Park against the mass tourism model, has been postposed. The government have openly disagreed with the protests taking place in the National Park due to environmental concerns but due to the public’s right to protest, this cannot be stopped. Instead, the government is forcing the delay of demonstrations by requiring extra documentation of authorisation. The activist groups are making it clear that they will “delay, but we don’t quit”.

Zebenzui Cabrera, an off duty Skipper of the Navia Lifeboat Service, aided a capsized cayuco (narrow boat) on the El Hierro pier. After seeing the boat flip, he jumped into the water explaining “any colleague would have done the same”. Cabrera reports that in the days after the event, those he rescued had to seek medical attention for numbness and fever after receiving cuts all over the body and having spent too long in the oil and waste filling water.

Zebenzui Cabrera, patrón fuera de servicio del Servicio de Salvamento Marítimo de Navia, ayudó a un cayucos (embarcación estrecha) que había volcado en el muelle de El Hierro. Tras ver cómo volcaba la embarcación, se lanzó al agua explicando que «cualquier compañero habría hecho lo mismo». Cabrera informa de que, en los días posteriores al suceso, los rescatados tuvieron que acudir al médico por entumecimiento y fiebre, tras sufrir cortes por todo el cuerpo y pasar demasiado tiempo en el agua llena de aceite y residuos.

New peaceful march in Puerto de la Cruz against school violence
Platform ‘Break the Silence Canarias’ will be collecting signatures to urge state law. On the 8th of June at 12:00pm, a peaceful march against school violence will be held in Puerto de la Cruz. This has been organised by the family of Lucía, a child who committed suicide on the 20th of February due to bullying at school. The demonstration will start at Martiánez beach to the Porto pier, where signatures will be collected.

La plataforma «Rompe el Silencio Canarias» recogerá firmas para exigir una ley estatal. El 8 de junio a las 12:00 horas se celebrará en Puerto de la Cruz una marcha pacífica contra la violencia escolar. La marcha ha sido organizada por la familia de Lucía, una niña que se suicidó el 20 de febrero debido al acoso escolar. La manifestación comenzará en la playa Martiánez y finalizará en el muelle del Puerto, donde se recogerán las firmas.
