Tenerife recorded a historic drop in employment in May

We registered in Tenerife the largest drop in unemployment in 15 years with more than 25 000 new contracts in May.

We continue consolidating the labor recovery of the island of Tenerife. In the first semester there has been a huge decline in job seekers and we have contributed to the growth of employment in the Canary Islands.

There has also been a historic decline in youth unemployment, reaching the lowest figure in 15 years.

We’re seeing the fruits of clear actions like driving the real economy, betting on education and standing by people, this drop in unemployment isn’t just a number, it’s an opportunity for thousands of families. Our youth have more open doors than ever today.

We continue to work so that no one is left behind, to build an island with more opportunities, more dignity and more future.

Registramos en Tenerife la mayor bajada del paro en 15 años con más de 25 000 nuevos contratos en mayo.

Continuamos consolidando la recuperación laboral de la isla de Tenerife. En el primer semestre se ha registrado un gran descenso de demandantes de empleo y hemos contribuido al crecimiento de contratación en Canarias.

También, se ha alcanzado un descenso histórico en el desempleo juvenil, alcanzando el dato más bajo de los últimos 15 años.

Estamos viendo los frutos de acciones claras como impulsar la economía real, apostar por la formación y estar al lado de las personas, esta bajada del paro no es solo una cifra, es una oportunidad para miles de familias. Nuestros jóvenes tienen hoy más puertas abiertas que nunca.

Seguimos trabajando para que nadie se quede atrás, para construir una isla con más oportunidades, más dignidad y más futuro.

Trump's cuts boost the chances that the Hawaii supertelescope will finally end up on La Palma

The US National Science Foundation (NSF) cancels funding for the 30m telescope (TMT) that was to be built in Hawaii. This places the La Palma Observatory as the best alternative. The TMT is one of the largest scientific infrastructures in the world. The NSF has assured it will instead be focusing on the Giant Magellan Telescope (GMT) which will be built in Chile. Hawaiian indigenous communities are pleased after voicing concerns over exploitation of Mauna Kea by astrophysicists.

La Fundación Nacional para la Ciencia (NSF) de Estados Unidos cancela la financiación del telescopio de 30 metros (TMT) que se iba a construir en Hawái. Esto convierte al Observatorio de La Palma en la mejor alternativa. El TMT es una de las infraestructuras científicas más grandes del mundo. La NSF ha asegurado que se centrará en el Gigant Telescopio Magallanes (GMT), que se construirá en Chile. Las comunidades indígenas hawaianas se muestran satisfechas tras expresar su preocupación por la explotación del Mauna Kea por parte de los astrofísicos.

Rosa Dávila once again attacks the protest called for at Teide and calls it ``barbaric`` that it is authorized

According to Rosa Davila, the fact the Teide rally is going ahead is “one more example of the disregard”. In the press conference this Wednesday, she called the authorisation of the protest “barbaric”. Davila reiterated that she “absolutely” respects the people’s right to protest but was hoping this event would be moved or cancelled.

The Cabildo of Tenerife have invested €3.7 million to fight back against the invasive cat’s tail plant as well as others. The initiative is putting the protection of the island’s biodiversity first. Cat’s tail is being targeted specifically for being particularly aggressive; more than 44 tons have been removed in the past few years already.

El Cabildo de Tenerife ha invertido 3,7 millones de euros para combatir la invasiva planta cola de gato, entre otras. La iniciativa da prioridad a la protección de la biodiversidad de la isla. La cola de gato es objeto de una acción específica por su carácter especialmente agresivo; en los últimos años ya se han eliminado más de 44 toneladas.

The Puertito de Adeje beach is closed again due to high levels of faecal bacteria

The Adeje City Council has closed the Puertito de Adeje beach temporarily, again, due to high levels of faecal bacteria found in water quality assessments. In recent weeks, up to six beaches in southern Tenerife, including Puertito de Adeje beach, have been closed due to quantities of faecal bacteria.

El Ayuntamiento de Adeje ha vuelto a cerrar temporalmente la playa del Puertito de Adeje debido a los altos niveles de bacterias fecales encontrados en las evaluaciones de calidad del agua. En las últimas semanas, hasta seis playas del sur de Tenerife, entre ellas la playa del Puertito de Adeje, han sido cerradas debido a cantidades de bacterias fecales.
