Continued observation of geological activity as La Palma government organises the return or relocation of the population and reduction of the exclusion zone around the eruptive centre

Data type: Geological report
Groups: Seismic activity – Volcanic cone measurement

Since the last statement (27th Dec 9:00 UTC), 14 earthquakes have been located on the island of La Palma, and none of them were been felt by the population. The magnitudes of the earthquakes are between 0.9 and 2.3 (mbLg). No earthquakes have been located deeper than 16 km. Yesterday the height of the cone was measured, obtaining a value of 1,121 masl (IGN, 2021).

This video taken on the 29th of December shows a survey of the volcanic cone. Intense degassing, fractures, and landslide deposits can be observed. Sourced from IGME (2021).
